Lead Pastor: Nic Cook

Nic Cook become our lead pastor in November of 2015. 

Hometown: Air Force kid, so I can't claim any one place. I've been in the Springfield/Chatham area since 2006 so this is my hometown.

Family: I'm married to Susan Cook and have a son name Levi (we call him "the Dude").

Favorite Book/Authors: I love anything C.S. Lewis and Eugene Peterson.

Favorite Movies: Lord of the Rings and Monty Python Quest for the Holy Grail.

Little Known Fact: I could live on anything covered in Teriyaki.

Joe shepherd: pastor of students and family ministries

Joe Shepherd joined our team in June of 2019

Hometown:  Orland Park, IL

Family: Joe is husband to Crystal and stepdad to Mason.

Favorite Book/Authors: "This Present Darkness" by Frank Peretti

Favorite Movies: Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Goofy Movie, and Ninja Turtles 1-3

Little Known Fact: If I wasn't a pastor, I would want to be a zoologist like Steve Irwin, working with animals; especially reptiles.

nursery director: Nancy deheve

Nancy has been the Nursery Director since 2012.

Hometown: I've lived in Auburn for 42 years!

Family: I've been married to my husband Donnie for 33 years and have a daughter Amanda and a granddaughter Parsyn (6 yrs old) who brings us such joy and happiness.

Favorite Book/Authors: I enjoy reading books to my granddaughter mostly and the children in the nursery. 

Favorite Movies: Grease and any movie with Chevy Chase! I enjoy comedies and anything that makes me laugh.

Little Known Fact: I have to start every day with a Pepsi.

Facilities Care: Kenny Allen

Kenny has been involved with Facilities Care since 1999 and took the role of Coordinator in 2011.

Hometown: I was raised in Virden, IL.

Family: I've been married to my wife Pat since 1984. Together we have 9 kids & 19 grandkids & 3 great grandkids. 

Favorite Book/Authors: Other than the Bible obviously, I love to read golf and fishing magazines. My favorite authors are Charles Stanley and Max Lucado.

Favorite Movies: John Wayne and Clint Eastwood Movies. Pretty much any old western movies.

Little Known Fact: I have to straighten everything I see.


The elders are the biblical leaders given the responsibility of caring for,  guiding, and protecting the people of Cornerstone. They partner with the pastoral staff to accomplish the mission of making and multiplying disciples that know, reflect, serve, and point others to Jesus.
